Thanks for the great video, two quick questions, one is there a specific amount that you set the air compressor to tighten up the bolts and nuts? two what would you do after you compress the springs if you were to change the springs to new ones also? is it safe to decompress the springs out of the struts and compress the new springs ? or is that something that has to be done at the shop?
jw200 Jun 29 2012 - 8:55 pm
Its really impossible to replace strut without removing spring?
And impossible to do this job without air tool at all?
jjrobs399 Jun 29 2012 - 9:04 pm
if all there is in a strut is a little disc with holes and oil then how do struts go bad?
ZekeComa Jun 29 2012 - 9:59 pm
I think, I will just leave this to a shop to do this. I’ll probably fuck it up. XD

I need to replace the struts on my 09 Chevy Cobalt with 67k miles. Any advice as to which ones to purchase?
Dsmith9797 Jun 29 2012 - 10:28 pm
Awesome videos dude!! I don’t want my face taken off by a loaded steel spring and I don’t have air tools anyway so I was thinking of just replacing my struts with quick struts. My question is are quick struts just as good as manually replacing a strut or is the quality better with a manually replaced strut? I’d like to get premium Monro-Matic Plus struts but they sadly don’t make them complete. Also, if you get a 2002 ford focus in your shop, rebuild that shiz and make tutorials out the wazoo!!

Thanks Eric, I am changing the mounts in my 08 Malibu tomorrow. Always nice to have a refresher, it’s been a while since I’ve done this. I picked up u spring compressor form Canadian Tire, it has the pins that hold it on the spring. I’ve used the ones like yours before and it is a little scary knowing you have a bomb in your hands!

where would i get the clamps at
mortenmorfar Jun 30 2012 - 12:05 am
there is a torque value for every bolt on a car, but most of the time you just tighten it up so it’s… tight
.
yep the bolt and nuts on the strut needs to be tighten all the way.
If you haven’t tighten the bolts that holds the suspension to the chassie, that will make noise.
Also if the strut rod bolt is not tight enough, it will move when you go over bumps

I also wonder if there are specific torque requirements on those fasteners. Eric looked as if he just tightened em on there with the air tools. Eric, could you help please?

This will probably be a stupid question, but I need some help.
Does the strut bolt at the top (The bolts that holds the spring in place) have to be tightened up all the way? I assembled everything like It was, but its making noise in bumps. Does the not tightening up of the strut bolt all the way play a big part on that noise? (I’m pretty sure i mounted everything back up with the plastic things to prevent noise)
Thanks for the help in advance.
